Note: The trails in Slovakia are color-coded (Blue, Green, Red, Yellow). Use the app Trail Tatras (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.mgaczkowski.tatry) which is great to see and plan your routes in advance.

Note #2: Don't hike this trail if there's fog or low clouds. The lake at the top will not be nearly as enjoyable as on a sunny day. You also won't be able to see any panoramic views.

Note #3: Waterproof shoes are a must! Some parts of the trail literally take you in the middle of micro-creeks, a few cm deep streams of water. We don't know if it's like this all the time, or just at this time of year.

Note #4: For a quick ascent directly to Skalnaté pleso, you can also take the cable car. But they are expensive: €25 per person (return ticket).

This hiking trail starts at Tatranská Lomnica, in front of Grandhotel Praha. Follow the Green trail up to Štart, and then continuing to Skalnaté pleso. Unfortunately, you'll be walking on asphalt roads, flattened surfaces, and ski-slopes. The incline gets very steep at times, and the way up is - monotonous and unexciting.

From Skalnaté pleso, you can continue in a few directions to other sights and lakes and peaks. Since it was foggy and cloudy, we switched to the Blue trail and decided to return to Tatranská Lomnica.

The way down is long and constant, but on varied terrain, so it's definitely more interesting than the ascent.

P. S. You can take the trail in reverse, but then you're expecting a very steep descent, so be prepared!
