Hike up "The Steamers" and check out one of the most awesome views in SE Qld! You will need a 4wd to access the start of the track. Start from the end of Emu Creek Rd, Emuvale or do as we did and take the 12km (return) bush track from the other side, off Old Mill Rd. Its a gradual 2km hike up along a bush track before the next 100m of very steep dirt brings you to the base of the cliff line. Climb up the rocks on the right (just past the cave), where you can check out a razorback ridge with great views across toward Mt Superbus. Once you are back down to the cave, just follow the base of 3 cliff lines NE, about 2km where you will be able to walk up along the summit to the lookout. It sounds simple but you'll have to work hard to see this magnificent view. For more information, check out our Facebook Hiking site- "Take A Hike- SE Qld".

You’ll be right Nathan. I checked out about 10 trails before we went. At present the trail is pretty easy to follow as there isn’t a lot of undergrowth. Love Wikiloc as it works so well. Make sure you go right when you get to the ridge line and see the cave. There is a great Razorback ridge to check out to the right once you scramble up about 10m. Enjoy.

Hey man! I just followed your trail yesterday! Thanks so much!! I was a little intimidated by this one after seeing it on Aussie Bushwalking. But your map was fantastic. We had a great day, thanks heaps!!

That’s fine Nittus. Glad you had a great day. Yes I spent days researching this walk and Mt Superbus and was amazed how easy both ended up being.

how do you get to each starting point in my 4wd? I can't match the red or green points with visible roads on google maps

It’s a steep dirt trail up to the ridge line. A few small rock scrambles but nothing difficult or scary.
You will see the parking areas (red n green) on old Mill Rd when you get there. Old Mill road is on Google maps but easiest just to download this Wikiloc trail and follow the trail -

I tried following your route up to the base of the cliffs.. it is severely overgrown now and in most parts there's no visible trail.. don't recommend to anyone to use this wikiloc for the first half of the hike

Did the steamers loop via mt steamer saddle and Mt stranger to the stern then back down to the start point at Old Mill re the normal route up to the steamers on the weekend. There's a very defined footpad once you cross the creek all the way up to the base of the funnel now. You could effectively do this now without a GPS track but still best to have one.
