The intention was taking the Salzberg funicular railway from Hallstatt Lahn to the entrance of the salt mine, and continue further along the brine pipeline hiking trail to Bad Goisern. Unfortunately, that track is often closed because of rock falls (ask in Hallstatt tourist information). It was closed when we did the trek, so we went along the other side of the lake. For that, we took the ferry from Hallstatt-Markt (that's the ferry station in the historical center of Hallstatt) to Hallstatt train station (at the other side of the lake). From the train station we started our walk that day.
We walked by the lake along the valley, and when we got to Bad Goisern we started climbing up to the mountain hut.
You could get food/drinks at Bad Goisern.
Overnight: Goisererhütte. Mountain hut with no showers, although there is tap water good for drinking. Dormitory (no private rooms).
