alla scoperta del canale del Rotto/Discovering Rotto Canal

Itinerario ad anello. Da Santhià, percorrendo un breve tratto dell’alzaia del Naviglio di Ivrea e poi proseguendo lungo l’alzaia destra del Canale Deprestis ( tranne un breve tratto a sinistra), si raggiunge Livorno Ferraris . Dopo aver attraversato il paese , arriviamo alla frazione di San Giacomo.
Dal centro abitato imbocchiamo l'alzaia sinistra del Naviglio del Rotto. Dopo un breve tratto ci stacchiamo dall'alzaia per incontrarla nuovamente all'altezza del casello dell'acqua da cui si diparte una spettacolare infilata di pioppi lungo i due lati del canale posti ad eguale distanza l'uno dall'altro.
Rientro a Santhià passando per il borgo di Sant'Antonino di Saluggia e poi percorrendo a ritroso l'alzaia del Canale Deprestis e un breve tratto dell'alzaia del Naviglio di Ivrea
Attenzione: lungo i canali si percorrono strade di servizio su sommità arginale non protette pertanto occorre prestare molta attenzione.

Circular route. Leaving Santhia’, running along a short stretch of the Naviglio di Ivrea towpath and then following the right hand towpath of the Canale Deprestis (except for a short stretch on the left) you come to Livorno Ferraris. After passing through the village you reach the hamlet of San Giacomo. From the village centre you come out onto the left hand towpath of the Naviglio del Rotto, after a short stretch you turn off from the towpath to meet it once more on the level of the water station hut from where a spectacular row of poplars stand along both sides of the canal, planted at equal distance from each other. The return to Santhia’ is by passing the small village of Sant’Antonio di Saluggia and then travelling back along the Canale Deprestis towpath and a short part of the Naviglio d’Ivrea towpath.
Attention: along the sides of the canals you are using service tracks on the top of the banks which are not protected so it is necessary to take great care.
